Internship FAQs

  • It is never too early to engage in an internship. If you are participating in a for-credit internship, this may require that you meet academic prerequisite requirements and approval before you earn credit. Be sure to check in with your academic advisor to determine your eligibility. If you are not ready or decide not to participate in a for-credit internship, do one anyway and gain the professional experience to advance your post-graduation career.

  • An internship is a temporary employment opportunity that is related to your career goal and/or major. Interns work in a professional setting designed to obtain work experience, gain knowledge in the field, network with professionals in the industry, explore a career path, increase skills and marketability.

Internships can be offered at competitive pay or unpaid. You may also be able to obtain course credit for certain major-related internships.

  • If you are participating in a for-credit internship, there are well-established deadlines for this that can be as early as one or two semesters prior to the start of the internship. Many employers post internship opportunities in the Fall for the following Summer.
